About Us

The Texas Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Society was founded in 1989 to serve the physiatrists of the state.  To be a voice for Texas physiatrists to further them in serving their patients in the state of Texas. We are a 501 3(c) organization that promotes education and research to further advance the specialty of PMR.  We also represent the members with a seat on the Medicare Contractor Advisory Committee which develops the Local Coverage determinations.

What is PMR?

The American Academy of PM&R originated in 1938, and the American Board of PM&R (ABPM&R) was established in 1947 and approved by the Advisory Board of Medical Specialties as one of twenty-four official medical specialties.   Their focus is on diagnosing, treating, and preventing the effects of illness or trauma that can cause disability.  A physiatrist is a medical or osteopathic physician who focuses his practice to restore function and reintegration back into all aspects of patient’s life.
