Presentation: The Sway Balance System and concussion, looking at identifying those at risk for increased symptoms and prolonged recovery

Barrett Weiss, M.D. is a current PM&R Chief Resident at Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) in Dallas, TX. Dr. Weiss completed internship training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and his undergraduate and medical schooling at Brown University in Providence, RI. After residency graduation in June 2023, Dr. Weiss will begin a Sports Medicine Fellowship at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Weiss is well-known amongst residency faculty members and peers as a top resident educator. Most notably, he created Ultrasound Rounds for the BUMC PM&R residents and led an Ultrasound course for Texas A&M medical students with great success. In his free time, Dr. Weiss enjoys competitive fencing, tennis, and trivia.

Presentation Title: Race/Ethnic Disparities in the Medical Management of Post-Stroke Complications

Kent P. Simmonds DO, PhD is a current  second year Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation resident at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and completed the dual DO-PhD (Epidemiology) program at Michigan State University. His research interests focus on the utilization of big data to identify areas where healthcare can be delivered in more efficient and equitable ways to improve patient- and system-level outcomes. Following residency, he hopes to pursue a fellowship in Brain Injury Medicine prior to a starting a career as a physician-scientist.
